We started off our journey in Vancouver on a cruise ship- the Volendam
What a party and sendoff! Margarita's and Mai Tai's
We headed to Alaska aboard our deluxe cruise ship!
We took a helicopter ride up to the glaciers in Skagway and walked on the
tip of the mountains and the glaciers
What a thrill, but not for the weak of stomach! You cannot be afraid of
heights as the helicopter takes it's dips and turns through mountains and
glaciers.
NO this is not martian landscape, although it looks a bit like it with
all the dust and rocks that the glaciers carry through!
What's this, is she afraid of heights?
Nope, just making a snow angel at the top of the world!
Snow Angels in Heaven!
Yes even I get in pictures once in a while!!
It was hot, and I got a sunburn!
Our cruise ship took a side trip down Tracy Arm
Cool, a place named after me? Anyhow, it was breath taking. The photos
cannot do justice to it, since the proportions and dimensions are off.
Everything was so large, it does not show as well in photos- guess you will
just have to visit this place!
OK, this might give you a little perspective,
here is a piece of ice floating in the water.
Remember, icebergs only show around 10%.
The bottom 90% are usually submerged!
This was from our Whale watching cruise in Juneau
yes, there is an entire page of photos just from this side trip!
Ooh, what does Elyse see in the forest around the lower lake in Skagway?
Here is our naturalist Saren
Ok, are we ready for the next leg, wait a minute, that is not Kathy. . . . .
Here we have our resident train buffs on the Train ride to WhitePass Yukon
route
Our local videographer- I am hoping I get a copy of those videos!
Great ice cream in Carcross
Can you imaging taking this to work?
A little faster and more in style!
Well, we are here
We made it to the Yukon!!!
Hmm, I though you said there was tons of wildlife and Nature, looks like
smoke from forest fires to me!!!!
Ok Elyse, have patience, I am looking for you, you did not miss anything
yet, except 17 1/2 hours of permafrost and burnt
trees!
Our Rock skippers were curious if it made a splash!
Nice puppy!
On to the Dog Mushers, there were numerous Iditerod champs here!!
Hmm, the only kisses we got on this trip!
Beautiful dogs and amazing with two colored eyes!
Many of them were extremely friendly and loveable!
Kluane
hmm, looks like another good place to skip rocks!!
and the contest is on- the honeymooners were taking the contest seriously!!
I think she stepped in every lake and pond across Alaska and Canada!
Mighty cold water, air temperature not too bad!
Here we are, the most westerly town in Canada
We had to get even with our fearless leader for her little "shortage" tales!
Well, even out here in the boon docks I can still get a martini!!
campfire "some mores"
Ok I skipped the burnt marshmallows and just ate the gram crackers and
chocolate!
Welcome and lets toast the great couples!!
Bonnie and Mel were celebrating!
Oh, here are some more anniversary couples
Lou and Nancy
310 miles from anywhere
or is that we are 301 miles into nowhere!!
I guess there was not a shortage of TP after all!!
Here are our little ladies at Rika's roadhouse
Liz and Joanna
Here is our group
what a nice bunch of people!!!
Give yourselves a hand!!
You know there can be many wonderful sights, but it is the people who
make the journey memorable and unforgetable!!!
Gilligan's island? No not really, this one one of the best parts of
the whole trip. We took a 6-8 hour tour of the Kenai Fjords. It was breath
taking! We saw the glacier up close and calving into the ocean, we was more
animals in one day that the entire 11 previous days. It was pretty, and was
definitely something not to miss. ( This was not part of the tour, we rented
a van from Anchorage, drove down to Seward and got on a tour boat!!! Well
worth it- check our those pages!!)
On top of the world, literally! This is the view high up on the glacier!!!!
Makes you feel very small
and realize how incredible nature really is!
Those rocks or boulders to be exact were moved by the glacier!
Another series of glaciers in the background!
Whoa, be careful where you walk! You would not want to fall into those
crevasses!
Elyse
had to try to taste, touch or swim in any body of water we found- here she
is sampling the Kluane, yes is is very smoky in the background- they forgot
to tell us that in August, there are a ton of forest fires in Alaska!!!
There happened to be 123 to be exact, only 58 of which they were trying to
stop!
If I had known that, I would have stayed away from the interior and
only done the coastline!
