Valley of the Glaciers out of Skagway

ok, we took a special helicopter tour- Pilot's choice

It was incredible!

We felt like we had a sneak peak into Nature's beginning

Ok, strap on your seat belts and lets go,

You will need to wear headphones  and you cannot be afraid of heights or have a queasy stomach! This will be the rollercoaster ride of your life!

The views out of the windows cannot be properly represented with photos, but we will give you a little sneak preview. Our recommendation is to do this if you ever get a chance!

There were many statuesque mountains and cliffs

Many of the glaciers carried rocks and glacier dust on the surface or buried within along for the ride

Some of the glaciers had already retreated down the sides of the canyon walls, exposing bare, rugged cliffs.

The Chilkat Glacier System  is famous for the many thrilling vertical features.  It has tons of steep mountains covered in beautiful hanging glaciers.  There are spectacular icefalls and frozen rivers of ice that have carved their paths into these rock for millions of years.

Incredibly huge cracks in this glacier

This crevasse to the left is over 100-200 ft long if not more, the picture does not show how massive these really are

Large crevasses develop as the glaciers grind and twist across the landscape and split open

Cars could fall into these crevasses and never be found!

Our pilot is going to take us right through those peaks in the mountain in front of us- hang on to your seats

On some, they have flattened out, already wearing their paths through the hills, smoothing them out and making new valleys

Ferebee Glacier has jagged peaks surrounding the Chilkat Glacier, and the dramatic Meade glacier

Many of the cliffs had walls of ice hanging precariously to the sides, breaking off and shifting constantly over time

Here the snow packs look ready to fall off the jagged cliffs

Some of the jagged cliff were really breath taking

The never ending oceans and rivers of ice was mind boggling!

The size of the ice fields was staggering

Ice rivers flowing into larger ice rivers!!!!

Hey, this  river of ice and glacier is absolutely awe inspiring, lets get closer

Spectacular. . . .  . .

Take a close look at a crevasse- ooh, I'll bet this goes down for miles, considering this ice field is over 5 miles wide- deceiving isn't it- the perception of size was very hard to establish!

Again, this looks like a dirt road on the Arizona dessert- it is actually over 5 miles wide and is a an example of how a glacier cuts a valley through the mountains

The fingers of ice slowly crawling down the mountain tops

Some of the mountains had been smoothed out by the glaciers constant erosion against the surface walls

The view was continually out of this world. I felt like I was on another planet- it was so alien and strange looking in some places

Imagine how deep those Crevasses are. . . . .

This gives you an idea of how large some of the ice fields are- the helicopter looks remarkably small in this photo!

Uh oh, here we go again, our pilot must have been a stunt driver in another life, he continually went up and through some of the astounding cracks and peaks with the helicopter and then down the slopes we rode on the other side

Here is a view and we come over and down some of the mountains. . .

More phenomenal ice rivers!

Next stop.... a walk on the glaciers!!!!!!

Are you dizzy yet, lets go take a walk on top of this miraculous world!!!!!!
