The Land of the Lord of the
Rings Pretty Exciting adventure, not to mention
unbelievable scenery. Although I felt a bit like I was in the land of the
elves and there sure seemed like magic was in the air, unfortunately, the
little bit of adventure I did have was limited to sightseeing and living
dangerously through the eyes of others since I was on a limited time
schedule. |
The jumpers were taking off the other side of the hill and sometimes had
difficulty getting into the air at first. One jumper did not make it
on the first try and was trying to catch his footing as he stumbled down the
side of the hill. Talk about giving us a bit of a scare!! |
|

This is the runway they take off and just jump over the side- yeah right,
you were not going to get me to do that! |
We took a beautiful scenic drive up Ta Mata
peak and were privy to observe the thrills and dangers of parachuting. |
Te
Mata Peak, is situated near
Havelock North.
It lies above the fertile Heretaunga plains of Hawkes Bay and stands 399
meters above the sea level. From the lookout point at the top of the peak,
the Ruahine, Kaweka and Maungaharuru ranges form the western horizon, while
the volcano Ruapehu is visible in the distance. |

| Te Mata Peak provides stunning scenery and the breath taking
views across Hawke's Bay, including Havelock North township, Hastings and
across to the art deco city of Napier.
Hang-gliders and paragliders, orienteers and elementary rock climbers,
joggers, cyclists and artists all enjoy the many features of the Te Mata
park. We were privileged to experience the thrills without actually having
to leave ground.

Legend has it that the hill known as Te Mata Peak is the
body of a Maori Chief, Te
Mata 0 Rongokako
The peak is also called the Sleeping Giant. |
