Sunrise in Islamorado, Florida

If you are shooting an automatic camera with 35mm or slides,

place the sun directly in the center of the photo, and it will automatically close down the iris and give you a darker image with more shadows!!

Sunset in Montreal, Canada
SUNRIS4.JPG (28097 bytes)

Florida sunrises can be spectacular!!!

These first two pictures of the palm trees were shot around the same time of morning. I  just moved the position of  the sun and the auto shutter closed down the exposure and made a prettier photo. Don't be afraid to play with lighting. You might get some surprises. These were taken when I was just learning, and I found this out by accident!

What could be more spectacular than watching the sun set out the window of an airplane ride!

MVC-013S.JPG (12610 bytes)
Even though the windows do make the images not quite as sharp, they are still sometimes phenomenal!!

Soft focus can sometimes make a cool image!

Place a branch or trunk of the tree in off to the side, it will two things,  it draws people into the photo, and it will make your camera focus on the branch instead of the sunset if you leave it on autofocus

Colorado sunset!

If there are clouds, the reflections off the clouds can make the photo more intense with sunrise or sunset photos

Backyard sunset

When shooting sunsets,  turn around!  The reflections off surrounding buildings is sometimes phenomenal and people do not take the time to look back.  They only focus at the  sun, not what it does to other things.  You might be surprised at what you see on other objects. . . . check it out

Notice the lighting effects based upon where the sun is in the photo- if you get really good at manual adjustments, you can make the shutter speed and F-stop changes yourself, but if you do not have the ability, just play with moving the brightest or darkest object around instead.

Obviously, I love taking sunrises and sunset pictures!
